2014년 인천아시안게임 성공개최를 위해 2013년 아시아실내무도대회를 유치한다고 한다. 무예계에서는 'Asia Indoor Game'으로 알려진 대회다.
2009년 베트남의 하노이와 호치민에서 개최된 이 대회를 조사하러 가 본 적이 있다. 아시아올림픽평의회에서 인정한 대회로 대부분의 종목들이 일부 스포츠종목을 제외하고, 모두 무술들이다. 베트남대회에서는 'e-sports'도 포함되어 있었다.
무에타이, 가라테, 태권도, 우슈, 킥복싱, 카바디,주싯수 등 볼만한 것들이 많다. 베트남대회에서는 대한체육회에 가맹되지 않았던 킥복싱과 무에타이에 출전하는 한국선수들이 찾아보기 힘들었다. 이 대회를 계기로 겨우 인정단체니 준가맹단체니 하며 각 종목단체들을 대한체육회는 승인했다.
인천은 갑작스러운 이 대회를 유치하느라 재정문제로 여론이 뜨겁다. 하지만 하노이와 호치민지역을 둘러본 경험을 보면, 우리나라 전국체전보다 작은 규모로 생각하면 될 것 같다.
